Sacramento Valley Conservancy is excited to announce our new TRAIL RUNNING program at Deer Creek Hills Preserve. As the weather cools, come enjoy the beautiful, rolling savanna grasslands and lush, green oak woodlands as you run the trails within the Sacramento Region's largest open space preserve!
Deer Creek Hills is ideal for runners with trail experience, offering a variation of inclines for hill repeats and vast, winding trails with distances of 3 or 6 mile runs.
Gates open at 8:15am. Docent guided group running 6 miles, at an approximate pace of 11min/mi will leave by 8:30am. All other runners are welcome to check out the marked, self-guided 3-mile loop. Please plan start time and pace to be off of the trails by 11am.
Safety is important, so make sure you have proper equipment. Supportive, closed toed shoes required, trail running style shoes recommended. Gaiters and/ or higher cut, moisture wicking socks recommended. There is no water source on the property. All runners must carry their own water, electrolytes and running fuel. Canopy coverage is limited and terrain varied, with portions of trail shaded by the blue oaks and full sun exposure on rolling hills, please wear sufficient sun and weather protection. It’s recommended that runners travel in pairs or small groups. All groups will be required to carry a cell phone while on the trails.
Saturday runs are free and there is no charge to park. Suggested $5-$20 donations help fund the on-site staff, volunteer docent program and freshly serviced portable restrooms, which are made available by SVC at these outings.
