Help STOP invasive species! Join SVC’s “Weed The People” for a few hours of invasive weed removal. Tools, training and a free lunch provided to all volunteers. Please wear layers, sun protection, wide-brimmed hat, dress for weather and bring your own water bottle. Please bring work gloves, weeding tools, a shovel, and knee pads or short step stool if you have them. A flat-head screwdriver is especially helpful!
WHY? Deer Creek Hills preserve (DCH) exists in large part to the cattle grazing operation, which pays for operating cost of the property. This translates directly into the long-term maintenance of DCH. Onion grass and thistle can significantly reduce the productivity of pastures and animal systems, making it a costly agricultural weed. If rangeland quality is compromised by so too is the value of the cattle lease.
