CELEBRATE BIODIVERSITY DAY!
This year’s Biodiversity Day theme is Rewilding at Camp Pollock: Forests and Fields near Downtown Sacramento. Participate in a fun day of learning about the plants and animals that call Sacramento home.
8:30-11:00 Camp Pollock Volunteer Service Day and optional iNaturalist tutorial w/ The Wildlife Society – Join volunteers from The Wildlife Society for a tutorial on how to use iNaturalist, then use your newfound skills to identify plants while weeding and propagating within the Camp Pollock native plant gardens.
REI Co-op will be hosting refreshments and light snacks at the picnic tables in the courtyard following the morning service day. Be sure to stop by Save The Snakes’ information table to learn more about local snake species.
11:15-12:15 Walk & Talk with UC Davis Faculty – Take your learning a step further, and join UC Davis faculty for a Walk & Talk about the history of land use at Camp Pollock and the unique biodiversity that can be found along the banks of this significant urban open space preserve, only minutes from downtown Sacramento.

CANCELLATION POLICY
SVC has a lease to manage Camp Pollock until 2048… there will be plenty of opportunities in the future if you are unable to attend this event.
Extreme weather or rain will often cancel volunteer projects. Registrants will be contacted by email if logistics change.
SVC’s policy for cancelling due to heat and AQI is as follows:
Heat Index Policy is to cancel any outdoor activity that takes place during “Danger” or “Extreme Danger” conditions. Heat index table: https://www.weather.gov/ama/heatindex
Air Quality Policy is to cancel any outdoor activity when the Air Quality Index (AQI) for PM2.5 particulate is 151 or greater, or when conditions are considered “unhealthy” on the AQI index. Anyone in the “unhealthy or sensitive groups” category should use the 101-150 AQI value as the indicator to limit outdoor activities. The PSI index value says conditions at or above 138 AQI should be heeded as a health advisory, avoid outdoor work.

Anyone concerned about the heat or AQI is advised to postpone outdoor activities and opt to join us when conditions improve.
