Docent Only: Indigenous Cultures Workshop
February 19 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free
Join us as we spend the morning talking under the oaks as we learn about indigenous perspectives and and their deep connection to the land. The talk will be led by Kimberly “ShiningStar” Petree Executive Director of the Cosumnes Culture and Water Ways. The CCaWW is a 501c3 that is “dedicated to preserving the indigenous culture of the Miwok people, caring for the land, animals, and the waterways.” In October of 2022 CCaWW partnered with American River Conservancy, REI and the local community and raised over $25,000 in support of a landback project for a 320 acre property in El Dorado County. The Ladies Valley Landbank fundraiser was a success, and the CCaWW is now one of the first Indigenous Land Trust in the area. Water and light snacks provided. Dress for the weather in layers and sturdy closed toed shoes. We will be sitting under the oaks in the grass, please bring a small mat, towel or blanket for your comfort.
Sacramento Valley Conservancy invites all staff, docents, board members and guests to attend this casual, but insightful talk and looks forward to listening and learning along with all of you!
