Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks will host a public meeting on Friday, Nov 3, at 6 p.m. in the Rancho Murieta Association building to provide background and details of the Cosumnes Ladder Fuel Reduction (CLFR) Project. The project aims to reduce wildfire risk to people and property and improve forest health on nearly 1,850 acres in east Sacramento County, including areas within Rancho Murieta, Deer Creek Hills Preserve, and the surrounding area.

The CLFR project plans to utilize manual, mechanical, and herbicide treatments to reduce ladder fuels, thin oak woodland, and suppress invasive weeds, including yellowstar thistle, Mediterranean milk thistle, skeleton weed, and perennial pepperweed. The project also incorporates restoration efforts, including planting 500 trees within Deer Creek Hills Preserve to promote oak regeneration.

Funding for this project was secured through a CAL FIRE Forest Health Grant awarded to the Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks in coordination with the Rancho Murieta Regional Firesafe Council and the Sacramento Valley Conservancy. For more information about the project, including CEQA documents, and to view the meeting announcement, please visit the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Meeting page, September 26 meeting (item #13).
